Not a big fan of those line combinations. Bert and Franzen on the same line doesn't seem like a good idea. I would much rather see Alfie or Nyquist up there.

Datsyuk at 18/19 is out of the ordinary, in our league he went like 6-8 something like that

maybe it's abit low, but urs is abit high imo.

top 5 were pretty much locks it seems.

and pavel is 35, add to that a couple goalies taken early, a few other guys like Giroux, getzlaf, kessel, hall, karlsson etc taken, plus maybe a couple surprises like couture..and voila

early teens was probably pretty standard draft position. I wonder if I could still find out..

I agree. What are the odds Nyquist and Tatar see a shift with Datsyuk? Babcock gave them one offensive zone start with Franzen against NJD and they scored the game winner. While I like having 14 and 21 playing together and with a fast center, they have definitely earned top 6 minutes.

I'd have to agree ... Sorry I know he creates space but I'd rather not have Bert on that top line...franzen has come to life playing with these young guys idk if playing with that old vet is gonna keep his blood pumping like it has been...

93-13-14
21-90-11
8-18-44
20-?-? Lol 4th line doesn't matter besides miller since we can't get eaves or tootoo up

team needs Weiss to wake up and get going and be a 60 pt player.

between him, Cleary,Samuelsson,Quincey theres a lot of dead cap space. u know, those 4 guys combined are like 14 mill in cap space and they contribute little to nothing.

Weiss is getting a break right now hes new-ish. but, the honeymoon wont last forever.

2 straight losses to the panthers? Maaan. I'm not one to pile on Howard, I think he's been getting too much blame, but even after the shot he saved in that shootout he looked lost let alone the winner where he didn't even flinch.

Howard was far from the problem in this game. He made a lot of point blank saves during the actual game...Wings missed way too many chances. Cleary and Kindl need to come off the PP. For a guy playing his former team in Florida, Weiss had 2 or 3 scoring chances but missed and didn't do anything else. Really starting to lose my patience with this guy just on his overall game. If he's not putting up points he doesn't add much to a team with the rest of his game.

Babcock also needs to address how this team plays in the 3rd period. They are tied for 7th least goals allowed in the first period. Tied for 4th least goals allowed in the 2nd period but tied for 3rd most goals allowed in the 3rd period and 1 behind 2nd place Islanders. That is pretty brutal and a big reason they have so many overtime and shootouts losses. They come into overtime and shootouts with the other team having all the momentum and confidence from coming back into the game.

I'm actually not going to whine too much about this one. Losing sucks, and everyone is especially sick of the same old routine - waste a 2-goal lead in the third, fall in the shootout. It's frustrating.

But I'm pinning this one on bad luck more than anything else. I thought the players played a good game. Howard (who I have been very critical of this year) I thought was sharp in the actual game and didn't have much chance on the goals he allowed. The skaters controlled play for most of the game, won the possession and shots battle, and got jobbed out of a perfectly legal goal when Dwyer somehow decided that Cleary's textbook screen (from well out in front of the paint, mind you, even though the ref said he was in the crease) and Thomas' inexplicable self-induced flopgasm constituted goaltender interference. I have always felt that that play should be automatically reviewed. If the puck goes in the net they should review it regardless of the actual call on the ice.

Likewise, who up front really had a bad game? Tatar and Nyquist were flying. Datsyuk looked good in his first game back. Franzen put together another nice effort. Weiss I thought at least took a step in the correct direction and got a few chances, even if he still looks a little lost at times. Even Emmerton and Cleary put together what was, for them, much better games than usual. Lots of close chances (Bertuzzi had a couple of misses where the puck bounced over his stick and he just missed the net on a shovel shot, plus Kronwall's OT crossbar shot) that didn't quite connect.

Hockey is one of those games, unfortunately, where the bounces are a big deal and the better team doesn't always win. I thought Detroit was the better team and deserved the W, but this was one of those unlucky games. Detroit's had plenty of games this year (especially early in the season) where the opposite was true and they were winning games were they were getting dominated up and down the ice, so what goes around comes around.

I thought the effort was good. Better luck next time.

This is just my imagination

BUT

What if the wings let all UFA walk after this year, or traded them prior to deadline

quincey cleary bert sammy eaves alfie gus and bought out too too (maybe bring alfie back if he continues to produce and wants to stay for a discounted rate)

Plus the cap goes up almost 7 mil right?

thats literally like 25 million in cap space.

You would obviously need to resign the RFA Dekeyser, tatar - im going to assume they will be getting less than 2 mil per season each. Maybe even jump the gun and sign smith to an extension now, for cheaper than when the cap space goes up even more.

That still leaves us with over 20 million in cap space right?

Who could we sign for next year?! Gaborik? Phaneuf? Vanek? Markov? Subban?

Who would you want to see the wings go after for big money?

They wont drop Alfie and guys like Bert and eaves may be brought back cheap as extras but hopefully the wings learned from this off-season not to sign 300 fwds that all play the same bottom 6 role lol

That being said I think the wings will still have plenty of cap room and then only thing is now a days all teams have that and it's becoming a preference of location and the wings don't really have a lot to lure in players to play in Detroit. That being said if they can put on a solid season from here out then the change to be on a perennial cup contender could give them an advantage.

Personally I doubt MTL lets either of those guys go...their defense isn't strong enough that they could afford losing them. Phanuef has upsides but is prone to turnovers lol I like an article I read about trading Quincey for Del Zotto and out of those you mentioned I'd take Vanek. Gaborik is injury prone as we have seen even though he is a pure sniper that the wings desperately need. But Vanek has been always played well in Buffalo and even though he also had some injuries I think he would be an awesome pick up for the wings.

He's a right winger with a right handed shot as the wings have very few righties. He knows how to score and has some size to go with it.

It really is pretty incredible that they are still in a good position for the playoffs given the struggles the Wings have endured. Two points in Tampa tomorrow would really be helpful in that way. What kind of cap relief do they get for putting Zetterberg on the LTIR? I know they mostly did that to be able to call up Mrazek, but is there enough still there to give Jurco a look?

Subban will be a RFA this summer not a UFA and we all know Holland would never offer sheet a player from another team and Montreal would match it anyways so forget about him.

Wings also have a bunch of younger guys that are RFAs. Sheahan will likely get a 2 way deal for the first year of his next contract but one way after that as he will be out of waiver options after next season. Ferraro, Callahan are out of waiver options and have to be signed or decided on what to do with them. Almquist is in the same boat as Sheahan. Babcock will likely want his new Cleary (Glendening) on the team.

Wings might have some cap space but they won't have too many roster spots open I don't think. Plus top UFAs will want long term contracts and the Wings have to be careful about handing out more of these with so many prospects coming...don't want to have them out of waiver options with no spots left open for them in the future because of too many long term deals.
